It’s been a journey for me to find the best ways to prepare a canvas.
I’ve discovered that I like THIS CANVAS the best, and I prefer the 12 oz thickness. I like it because it’s pretty smooth and also very durable and thick.
I prepare my canvases with a coat or two of acrylic based gesso, which I flatten down with a palette knife.
These days I actually like working on a white canvas best, but in the past I’ve tried various tinted versions. HERE’S a link to a video where I show a grey/green tint that I really love.
