Find Your Artistic Voice

Challenge Yourself to GROW as an Artist!

This week I’ve been thinking about how much fun it can be to challenge ourselves as artists. To grow and develop in the areas that we desire, we need to be trying new things, noticing what excites us, and allowing ourselves to feel like a beginner at times.

When I started the large triptych behind me I was thinking back to when I first started learning oil painting from an artist named Philip Craig.  He was actually painting a giant triptych at the time in his studio and he talked about how working so large can feel like dancing with the canvas.  I wanted to try that again so I stretched these large canvases directly to the wall and started playing around.

To truly evolve as artists, we must be willing to step out of our comfort zones and approach our craft with a beginner’s mind. The large triptych project became an opportunity for me to relish the feeling of being a novice once again. Embracing the unfamiliar, whether it’s experimenting with new techniques, mediums, or formats, opens doors to uncharted creative territories. As we navigate the unexplored, we cultivate resilience and a deeper understanding of our artistic selves.
