This week I started thinking about the importance of conquering our fears as an artist, and doing the things we need to do, whether we feel like it or not.
Whether it’s reaching out to galleries, sending newsletters, or taking bold steps to showcase our work, the path to success is often paved with anxiety and self-doubt. It’s time to embrace the discomfort and step into a world of possibilities that awaits us on the other side of fear.
RESOURCES MENTIONED
I recently stumbled upon a gem of wisdom in Gay Hendricks’ book, “The Big Leap,” where he talks about the concept of upper limiting ourselves. It’s that self-imposed ceiling we place on our potential, often driven by fear, that keeps us from taking actions that could genuinely transform our lives.
Consider this: the successful person isn’t necessarily someone who’s inherently better at these nerve-wracking tasks than others. They are the individuals who, despite the fear, hesitation, and uncertainty, take the plunge anyway.
Perfectionism is a sneaky roadblock that often stands between us and our goals. It’s time to let go of the idea that everything has to be flawless. Taking imperfect action is not a failure; it’s a success in itself. By sending that email or making that call, you’re already ahead of the version of yourself who didn’t try.
The key is to shift our mindset from focusing on the outcome to celebrating the courage it takes to act. Results are not entirely within our control, but the actions we take are. So, let’s celebrate the victories, big or small, in the journey rather than fixating on the destination.
